Still in Costa Rica
We have moved on up the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, spending two nights in Mal Pais was enough for us, I surfed a couple of times in the fun but sizey beach break waves, I forgot how tiring surfing a beach break was, I counted 20 duckdives in my first paddle-out, fairly easy duckdives but so draining.
Now we are in Tamarindo, which is far more developed and populated almost entirely by...

Costa Rica
Charlie and I had just about reached our limit with Bocas, the place is really nice, but the remoteness of our island meant that the hostels showers were incredibly unreliable, we had one shower in the four days we were there.
Add to that surfing and swimming every day and the countless layers of suncream, anti insect stuff and the tropical downpour which we lugged our bags through on the last...

Pana-manic
The past few days have been a rollercoaster since leaving Lima, Charlie covers the main issues in her posts.
Panama is as hot as we expected, but more expensive, the taxi driver we got lumbered with at the airport was having a bad day, he made everything hard work, even making a huge meal of having to pay a toll to get out of the airport area - as if it was the very first time he’d ever had...

A police escort! (by Charlie)
charliesnooks:
Its only been a few days since my last entry but the story of getting from Lima to Panama is rather traumatic for me so I thought I would share!
We left the hostel at 8pm on the 14th in a private taxi to the airport, when booking it we thought it would just be the normal beaten up taxi but as it turns out the hostel have a friend who they use for airport pick-ups/drop-offs. He is...

I am only going to write Machu Picchu once!
charliesnooks:
So it is done, we went to the place with the ruins got very wet and since then I have written the words so many times it is making me dizzy.
After the early start (hostel owner got up and made us breakfast!) we arrived and headed straight to the second mountain called Waynapicchu, an Irish guy in Arica had suggested it was worth the walk which turned out to be 1.20hrs up really...

Lima
Charlie and I are now in the heat of Lima, after a 22 hour bus journey we arrived to find that the address we had for the hostel didn’t exist, after 30 minutes of asking around local official looking figures we managed to drag up the address on the laptop.
Charlie had forgotten to dot the “i” when writing it down, so we were looking for Los Linos street, when we were actually...

Peru
So far Peru has been expensive, they really know how to milk the tourist in the Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley area.
We´ve tried to do it as cheaply as possible but it´s still costing us a bomb to get up to the main site, we are going to be there tomorrow, getting the 05:37 train from Ollantaytambo, the guy in the hostel is getting up so we can have breakfast at 04:30; legendary.
Hopefully all...

Adios Arica
The surf was great fun at El Gringo, not as life-threatening as it looked the day before, and only an Argentinian guy and me out for an hour or so, I caught plenty of waves and got a couple of nice tubes, so I was happy to leave my Chilean surfing experience at that, but I’ll definitely try and come back to Chile, and particularly Iquique, for some more surf. We have now left Arica, and...

Arica Arrival
We are now set up in the Surf House Hostel in Arica, we had a quick walk over to El Gringo this evening, it’s not too far to walk, but I already miss being 100 yards from the water at Iquique.
The owner was doing tow-ins today apparently, and it looked pretty sizey from what we saw, hopefully it wont be too busy or dangerous looking tomorrow.
The cliffs overlooking it are very picturesque,...
